All of them have been taken out from the ground. To them, anything they knock out of the sky is a good thing. _________________ Socially distancing since 1970. |

How many Raptors are there in service? Only a handful I would imagine at this point. _________________

I believe we're up to two active squadrons and two training squadrons. Figuring 15 to 24 aircraft as a squadron, we're well beyond a handful. Unless you mean a handful for anyone that dares to go up against them.
Put it this way, our F-15E (best radar package we have besides the now retired F-14) pilots couldn't find them. When they finally allowed themselves to be "found" they proceded to wipe the deck with the F-15's. One of our experienced pilots told the crewchief he now knew what the Iraqi's felt like in '91.
F-16's didn't fare any better. The F-16 is built for economy and manueverabilty. Kind of hard to maneuver when you can't find the target and the target has vectored thrust, superior power and better integrated controls so it can out maneuver you. _________________ Socially distancing since 1970. |

In a stand up dog fight, I wonder how the Su-27's and Mig-29's with thrust vectoring would do? Tht Su-27's are probably too big to hang with the Raptors but the Mig-29's might do OK. _________________

I believe the only thing that Russia has that would hang with the F-22 in a close-in dogfight is the Su-37. Too bad the F-22 would take it out before the Su-37 even knew it was there. _________________ Socially distancing since 1970. |
