Folding family that is. Mr. Green

I sold one of my 8800GTS to help fund the purchase. Yellow Cool

Now to get her installed and crunching. Supposedly I should be able to produce upwards to 16,000 ppd on this single card. eeeeek

The output of the GTX 285 is unimpressive. Yellow Rolleyes

Originally, I was seeing numbers mentioned saying ~16,000PPD. However, I know that these guys were "projecting" those numbers. Normal PPD appears to be more in 9K to 11K area depending on the WU.

My 285 is a normal card, that is, not a factory overclocked model. I guess that's why the results are a bit lower than what other people are getting.

Anyone running an ATI card for folding? I noticed when installing the drivers for my new HD4850 that it included a folding client, so was wondering what kind of output I could expect if I ran folding. Also can you run the GPU client and the CPU client (SMP) on the same machine? And last but not least, does turning on HT help?

Here's a chart comparing results from different ATI cards:

http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=4263

You can however, run both the GPU and SMP client. Browse through that same site for instructions on how to set them up. Here's a short post that should point you in the right direction.

http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=50&t=10849

I'm sure there are more detailed instructions to be found. I only run nVidia clients so it's a little be different in the set up.

I run both SMP and GPU clients on my machines, it's not difficult. However, if your GPU is a power hungry card, it will create a lot of heat.

My understanding is that ATI cards are a bit slower than their nVidia counterparts but they still get better results than the SMP client.

Let me know if you have any questions and I'll try to help.

Thanks, I did get the GPU running while waiting for an answer Very Happy but so far not really impressed, but I have nothing to base that on having not run folding in years. Yellow Rolleyes

/edit/ ... Well the ATI card(s) are not really very good for folding when compared to the nVidia card(s). FAH Moniter was showing 2695 points per day for the ATI. Just installed folding on one of the nVidia's and FAH Moniter is showing 6677 points/day. So have switched the ATI to RC5.

That's actually about what my 8800GTS cards do per day. My GTX 285 does about 8000 ppd.

I have it running on (2) GTX 260's now. Points/per day increased on the 1st to 7028 (per fah moniter) the second is only showing 4800/day. So I'm guessing the calculation a bit off until the workunit gets closr to completion. Anyhow, I 'll leave them running a few days to see how they perform.
